Caroline Allams, Natterhub co-founder, chats with BBC Radio Sheffield about new NSPCC grooming stats

Alarming statistics released by the NSPCC today (24/08/2021) state that online grooming crimes recorded by police jumped by around 70% in the last three years reaching an all-time high in 2021.

When discussing the topic with Kat Cowan on BBC Radio Sheffield, Caroline commented, "The biggest thing you can do is connect with your child and take an interest in what they’re doing online. In the same way we nurture our children in face-to-face scenarios… we have to also teach them to behave in a safe way when they’re on a screen. That only comes from dialogue about what they’re interested in and what they’re engaging in." "Children are going to come across bumps in the road and if they have an open dialogue with a parent or carer they will find it easier to open up to their trusted adult."
