One extremely helpful Discord safety feature is the message scanning feature. There are three levels: “keep me safe” which scans absolutely everything, “my friends are nice” which scans messages that are not from anyone on the friends list, and “don't scan” which scans nothing.

You are also able to decide who can send you friend requests. Discord automatically defaults to server members. But you can adjust this to friends of friends or everyone.
